Australia to equip Olympic team with anti-Zika condoms for Brazil games

© Chaiwat SubprasomTo protect the Australian Olympic team from potential exposure to the Zika virus, Aussie pharmaceutical company Starpharma announced it will team up with world No2 condom maker Ansell to supply virus-proof condoms for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro games.

The Australian Olympic team will be provided with antiviral Dual Protect VivaGel condoms for the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, scheduled to begin in August.

“Starpharma is delighted to play a role in supporting Australian athletes as they compete on the world-stage at the Olympic Games in Rio,” said Starpharma CEO Dr Jackie Fairley.

The Chef de Mission for the Australian team, Kitty Chiller endorsed the offer by the pharmaceutical firm, saying: “The health and wellbeing of the team comes first and our association with Starpharma will provide extra protection for everyone on the team, and is a common sense approach to a very serious problem we are facing in Rio.”

Besides offering the typical condom layer of protection, the condom’s lubricant contains a gel with antiviral agent, which was developed to kill a number of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as HIV, HSV (genital herpes) and HPV (human papillomavirus).

Although Zika is a mosquito-borne virus, in late March, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned that men diagnosed with the Zika virus should wait at least six months before having unprotected sex, as the virus remains active in semen.

Taking the latest research and warnings into account the company conducted more VivaGel tests that “showed near-complete antiviral protection against Zika virus,” the company said in a statement.

As no vaccine against Zika virus exists, Starpharma believes their choice of condoms will be the best way to protect athletes at the summer competitions.

“Given sexual transmission of Zika virus is of increasing importance the potent activity of Starpharma’s VivaGel® against Zika could prove very significant,” Fairley said.

Radiation spike near Hanford nuclear waste site ‘natural’ – EPA

ARCHIVE PHOTO: Workers demolish a decommissioned nuclear reactor during the cleanup operations at the Western hemisphere's most contaminated nuclear site in Hanford, Washington state on March 21, 2011 © AFP PhotoThe US Environmental Protection Agency chalked elevated gamma radiation levels around America’s largest nuclear waste storage facility, the Hanford site, up to natural causes, but RT’s Alexey Yaroshevsky has found a few inconsistences in its claims.

RT has reported extensively on the situation at Washington State’s Hanford Nuclear storage facility since various leaks and injuries to workers were reported. An incident on May 5th covered by RT, when radiation levels in the area adjacent to the site skyrocketed, prompted a federal investigation.

However, following the RT report, a local newspaper urged its audience not to “believe everything on the Internet” in an article extensively quoting a statement from the EPA that claimed the elevated radiation levels had a natural cause and were not connected to the Hanford facility in any way.

“The US Environmental Protection Agency and the Washington State Department of Health agree that radiation from naturally occurring radon was measured on an EPA monitor,” the EPA statement reads.

“The scientists determined that the cause was a temporary elevation of radon levels from the natural decay of certain types of elements found in nearly all rocks and soil.”

Selected not Elected — Rothschilds Hold $100,000 a Plate Dinner Fundraiser for Guess Who

hillary-rothschild-dinner

Washington, D.C. – Providing even more proof that she is simply a puppet for the ruling oligarchy, on Thursday, Hillary Clinton attended a $100, 000-a-head fundraiser hosted by none other than Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a prominent New York businesswoman, and supporter of Mrs. Clinton.

The Rothschild banking dynasty is a family line that has been accused of pulling the political strings of many different governments through their control of various economic systems throughout the world. Historically, there is ample evidence to prove that the family has used its vast fortune to control the political apparatus of numerous nations throughout history, toppling regimes and bringing entire economies to their knees.

Although the Rothschild family now keeps a very low public profile, they still have significant business operations across a wide spectrum of sectors. While you may not find any one particular Rothschild on the Forbes’ most rich list, the family is estimated to control $1 trillion dollars in assets across the globe, thus having an extemely strong voice across the geopolitical/economic spectrum that many perceive as a hidden hand manipulating events silently from behind a veil of virtual secrecy and silence.

In March, The Free Thought Project examined Wikileaks searchable archive of Clinton’s emails and found intimations of a close relationship with the infamous Rothschild family.

Lynn Forester de Rothschild wrote an email on April 18, 2010, in which she tells Hillary she would “love to catch up” — and “I remain your loyal adoring pal.” Clinton responds, “let’s make that happen,” and signs her response, “Much love, H.”

On September 23, 2010, Clinton emailed Lynn Forester de Rothschild (an email chain marked by heavy redaction) saying, “I was trying to reach you to tell you and Teddy that I asked Tony Blair to go to Israel as part of our full court press on keeping the Middle East negotiations going …”

Rothschild responds, thanking Clinton for “personally reaching out to us,” and adds, “You are the best, and we remain your biggest fans.”

This correspondence gives the greatest insight into the fact that the Rothschild family works behind the scenes to use their enormous clout to forward a geopolitical agenda using their bought and paid for politicians as a means to an end.

The Turkish government has dismissed hundreds of journalists so far this year and blocked tens of thousands of websites since mid-2015, says an association for journalists in Turkey.

According to the report by the Press for Freedom Project (ÖiB), which is affiliated with the Turkish Journalists’ Association (TGC), at least 160 journalists were sacked in April alone, raising the number of dismissed journalists in the Anatolian country to a total of 894 since January.

The report also set the number of blocked websites at 104,904 since the Turkish general election in June 2015.

Moreover, a total of 33 reporters were arrested from January to April, it further said, adding that 12 journalists faced charges over “insulting” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Thousands of Spaniards mark anniversary of anti-austerity movement

Thousands have taken to the streets of Madrid on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the establishment of a protest movement to demand an end to the government’s austerity measures.

The protesters gathered in Puerta del Sol Square Sunday to commemorate the establishment of the Indignados (Outrage) movement.

The movement ignited in May 2011 and led to the formation of the anti-austerity party Podemos, now the country’s third major political party.

The demonstrators marched to the square in a festive atmosphere playing music and carrying banners reading, “Dreams and ideas cannot be gagged,” “Unemployed on the march!” and “European Union of people, not nations!.”

“Today is the anniversary of a real boom that took place five years ago when the people said that we were fed up of paying — with our health system, education and social services — the price of a crisis that we didn’t cause,” said a protester, Ana Garcia.

“Since then, many things happened, many marches and mobilizations, and it’s clear that only through mobilizations and fighting in the streets that we will get what we want.”

Shell Oil Spill Dumps Nearly 90,000 Gallons of Crude Into Gulf

An oil spill from Royal Dutch Shell’s offshore Brutus platform has released 2,100 barrels of crude into the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

The leak—roughly 88,200 gallons—created a visible 2 mile by 13 mile oil slick in the sea about 97 miles south of Port Fourchon, Louisiana, according to the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.

Officials said that the accident occurred near Shell’s Glider field, an underwater pipe system that connects four subsea oil wells to the Brutus platform, which floats on top of the water with a depth of 2,900 feet.

Shell spokeswoman Kimberly Windon said in a statement that the likely cause of the spill was a release of oil from the subsea infrastructure.

The Coast Guard said that the source of the discharge is reportedly secured. A cleanup crew has been dispatched.

Shell spokesman Curtis Smith said in a statement that a company helicopter observed the sheen yesterday, and that the wells were under control after it isolated the leak and shut in production.

“There are no drilling activities at Brutus, and this is not a well control incident,” the company said. “Shell is determining the exact cause of the release by inspecting the subsea equipment and flowlines in the Glider field. The company has made all appropriate regulatory notifications and mobilized response vessels, including aircraft, in the event the discharge is recoverable. There are no injuries.”

Citing industry trade publications, Reuters reported that the Brutus platform started operations 15 years ago and was designed with top capacity of 100,000 barrels of oil and 150 million cubic feet (4.25 million cubic meters) of gas per day.

Shell said that “no release is acceptable, and safety remains our priority as we respond to this incident.”

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement has tightened regulations for offshore operators ever since the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion that claimed the lives of 11 men and caused the largest man-made oil spill in history after dumping 3 million barrels of oil into the Gulf.

Still, environmental advocates have criticized Big Oil’s insistence that offshore drilling can be done safely and have urged for the practice to stop.

“The last thing the Gulf of Mexico needs is another oil spill,” Vicky Wyatt, a Greenpeace campaigner, told EcoWatch. “The oil and gas industry’s business-as-usual mentality devastates communities, the environment, and our climate. Make no mistake, the more fossil fuel infrastructure we have, the more spills and leaks we’ll see. This terrible situation must come to an end. President Obama can put these leaks, spills, and climate disasters behind us by stopping new leases in the Gulf and Arctic. It’s past time to keep it in the ground for good.”

“This latest offshore oil disaster once again demonstrates the inherent dangers of fossil fuels, and the irresponsibility of allowing new oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico even as these spills continue to happen,” Marc Yaggi, executive director of Waterkeeper Alliance, said.

The Louisiana Bucket Brigade noted in a press release this morning that the federal National Response Center clocks “thousands” of oil industry accidents in the Gulf of Mexico every year.

“What we usually see in oil industry accidents like this is a gross understatement of the amount release and an immediate assurance that everything is under control, even if it’s not,” Anne Rolfes, Louisiana Bucket Brigade founding director, said. “This spill shows why there is a new and vibrant movement in the Gulf of Mexico for no new drilling.”

Consumers sue Quaker Oats over ‘100 percent natural’ lie after product tests positive for weedkiller

Quaker Oats(NaturalNews) At a time when food giants such as Aldi and Del Monte are receiving good publicity for taking a stand on GM produce and the importance of clear labeling, Quaker Oats is being questioned over traces of toxic chemical glyphosate in a lawsuit.

As reported by The New York Times, a lawsuit that is currently seeking to be certified as a class action has recently been filed on behalf of a group of consumers in New York and California, against the owner of Quaker Oats. Tests have found traces of the herbicide ingredient glyphosate in some of the company’s oatmeal products.

The dangers of eating glyphosate for breakfast

Glyphosate is a nasty chemical that is found in Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide and has been linked with causing damage to cells, genetic mutations, miscarriages, immune diseases, cancer and other seriously debilitating conditions.

Despite the proven impacts on the human body caused by exposure to this toxic compound, glyphosate is still used across the US in farming, in public parks and in gardens. And Quaker Oats isn’t the only cereal believed to be contaminated with glyphosate – residues of the herbicide have been found in many popular breakfast foods, sometimes in levels higher than the maximums set by the Environmental Protection Agency, according to Natural News.
