[6] #FraVragTilVirkelighed: Smidige planker Vikingeskibene er bygget af frisk træ. Konstruktionen er let og fleksibel og har stillet store krav til materialekvalitet. Som grundprincip følges træets naturlige strukturer for at opnå lette, smidige og stærke elementer. Plankerne kløves således ud af rette stammer og hugges til med økse. Det tager ca. 4½ dag at kløve, grovhugge og tilpasse én planke. Filmen viser en plankes tilblivelse.

Translation: The smooth planks in a Viking ships are built from fresh wood. The construction is lightweight and flexible and demands material quality. As a basic principle you follow the wood’s natural structures in order to achieve lightweight, agile and strong elements. The planks is cleaved so the right strains can be cut with an axe. It takes approximately 4 ½ day to cleave, rough cut and customize one plank.
